Masters 2025 Thursday A relatively decent day for scoring and yet not many players broke par. Justin Rose cruised to a 3 shot lead over a few competitors, including Scottie Scheffler. With Rose AND Scheffler on his team, Ikey's Heroes jumped out to a 7 shot lead (347) over Mag's Mulligans (354). Congrats both for cashing day 1. At the other end of the scoring, our Brooklyn brothers, Al and Chuck, tied for 9th (doesn't that sound better than last?) with 369 totals. That's only 22 shots behind. But don't worry, the DFL of the tournament on Thursday went to Nick Dumblap (Dunlap) the Alabama alum who shot 90! I believe the tournament is still wide open to any player at even par 72 or lower day one. I'll provide better commentary tomorrow. Hans Friday It was a beautiful day in Augusta GA. Slightly better in the morning that the afternoon, as the stats will confirm. Justin Rose continues to lead, now by only one over Bryson DeChambeau. Lurking close are many powerhouse players including McIlroy, Scheffler, Hatton, Connors, and Schauffele. Our pool saw day two honors go to Mags. His Mulligans were solid, posting 350... not as good as Ikey's 347 on Thursday, but really good. Fox, with his LIV players finally performing to expectations shot 351 for second place honors on day 2. A key to winning this pool is to have most if not all of your team making the cut. The Mulligans are the only team with everyone playing the weekend. Gabes, Sobo and Fox lost only one golfer. Al, Jack and Ikey lost 2 each. Then there were my Ace Holes and Chuck's Calloways with 3 Cut, and Andy's Hookers losing 4 to the cut. All three teams are toast. The top of the leader board is as good as we've seen in Majors for a while. Rose could hold his lead -8, but with DeChambeau one back -7 and Mcllroy one more back -6 and Scottie -5, we're in for alot of drama over the weekend. The 18th hole crushed the hopes of many. For example, Koepka made a quadruple bogie 8! and missed the cut by one. Henley and Kirk both bogied 18 to miss the cut by one. All three are Ace Holes. (sorry if I sound like Albert whining about his bad luck) It was statistically the hardest hole on the course. Another stat I heard following the round is that of the 13 scores in the 60's, 11 were shot in the morning. and finally, did you see Tyrell Hatton miss a 1 foot putt on 17 for par. the ball hit the lip and ended 5 ft away. Fortunately he made the bogie putt and saved himself for another outburst. Enjoy the tournament on Saturday. Sobo and Jack will be at the Blue Gold game. I'll be on the golf course in the morning, but in front of the TV soon thereafter. Hans Hatton BLOWS! My team BLOWS! Roto Golf bleeping BLLLLOOOOWWWWSSSS! Just ask Charlie! CA “What the Commissioner said” Charlie I think Nick Dunlap’s 90/71 should get some recognition mention. So I did. A Saturday When you watch the Masters tomorrow, look at the size of the sand traps. I'm not sure why it hit me today (maybe because I played) but those traps are HUGE. Fortunately for Rory, I don't think he was in any of them. Starting his round with 6 straight 3's has to be a record. After giving a couple of shots back on 8 and 10, his eagle on 15 was magnificent! He is focused. I just hope he gets through the next 24 hours.... because he is paired with Bryson DeChambeau. BD made a putt on 18 that was nothing short of miraculous. He clearly wants this and is probably still hitting golf balls with the help of the portable lights on the range. There is alot about BD's game I like. One snipit from late in his round... Justin Rose had just 3 putted from 4 feet on 16, then BD was up. He converted his 3 1/2 foot putt, then proceeded to stare down someone in the crowd. Did anyone else see that? Wonder what that guy said to BD to really piss him off? As for our pool, Sobo lapped the field today, beating second place Mags by 9 shots and everyone else by way more. I know this is not acceptable to Al who protested Sobo's selection of Patrick Reed to fill out his 6 man team. I made the call before the tournament started and it stands. Going into Sunday, Mags' Mulligans and Sobo's Pinseekers are tied at 987. Third place is still a fight with Fox at 1000, Gabes at 1001 and Ikey at 1003. The bottom 5 teams are so far out, there is no need to track their scores... but I will nevertheless. I hope everyone enjoys the drama that will undoubtedly unfold tomorrow. This will be fun to watch. Hans Sunday That loud sound we all heard coming from Augusta National at roughly 7:15 PM this evening was the weight of the world falling off Rory McIlroy's shoulders. Rory made it way more interesting than it should have been, but props go to Justin Rose, the consummate professional. I like both players and am very happy for Rory. I heard McIlroy say that the double on the first hole may have been a good omen as he was soo nervous and this helped him deal with the nerves. Bryson can say that he did lead the Masters on Sunday... for one hole. But then he came crashing down. With his talent, I know he'll be back, not only for the Masters but the other majors as well. Getting to our pool.... Sobo takes overall honors (and cash), edging Mags who took second, 9 shots back. Ikey gets third place money, 5 shots behind Mags. As for the daily payout today, that honor goes to Ikey, with Sobo taking 2nd. Yes, I know the addition of Patrick Reed to Sobo's team upset Al. Maybe others. If we have a similar situation in the final 3 majors, I may take a different stance. But you had to admire Reed's hole out for eagle on 17. One hop and in! Rory now has three wins in 2025. I expect him to win more, just as Scottie did in 2024. Augusta National again looked amazing. At the top of my bucket list is to somehow get two tickets in 2026 to take Sheila. Hans
