[Original Plans] Gentlemen: Now that we are totally assured of having a new coach in 2002, the site of Reunion 2002 will be near the House that Rockne Built. That's a change from my original plan, but it will give everyone a chance to see at least one game next year when excitement, hope and optimism, and maybe even execution, focus and concentration, will return to Irish football. Dates: In order of my preference, here are the possible dates: October 3,4,5 (Stanford), September 5,6,7 (opener vs. Purdue), October 10,11,12 (Pitt). Michigan on Sept. 14, is also a possibility, but that gives Prep a conflict with long standing commitment. Let me know what you think. After getting all the feedback, I'll make an arbitrary decision. Brief Highlights: Kicking somebody's ass in football. CyberZahm Golf tournament on the new N.D. Course. Some really nice wine that I've been hoarding. Venue. I'm going to try and stay away from the traditional motel set up, if possible. Will find a lodge, house or cottage on a lake within driving distance from S.B. Andy says the house he arranged is no longer available. Did something with the wife, then a divorce, then no more house. Don't know the details. BTY, was on campus for the Tennessee game. Georgeous day. Great tailgate. Beef tenderloin perfectly grilled. Followed by a grilled sausage with sauerkraut and a couple cold beers. Couldn't find Jack. Had really good seats for the game. Same ones John, Willo and Fox used for the Purdue game last year. Easy access to concessions and bathrooms. Then we came home. Oh yeah, the highlight of the day was the rumor that Gruden had been on campus on Friday. I thought it was bs, but many insisted it was true. One student claimed to have stood right next to him. Was told that they were talking a ten year contract. I think they meant John Madden. D.D. ************************************************************** [Final Plans] Gentlemen, it's almost here! 1. Attendees: DD, Gabes, Andy, Ikey, Fox, Mags, Willo, Sobo, Hans, Albert, Guy, Bill P., Prep and Jack for Friday golf and Friday night. Depending on his trial schedule, Prep may not arrive until Thursday morning. 2. Accommodations: The fishermen, Gabes, Andy, DD and Ikey will stay at the Cottage. Since we have room for two more, I'll draft Fox and Mags. I don't think they'll mind shitting in the woods. Everyone else can pair up as they so choose. Sorry Willo, Gabes is spoken for. Everyone else will stay at the Quality Inn in Paw Paw - about 15 minutes from the cottage. The rooms are in my name, and I'd propose to keep it that way and then divide the costs later. 3. Telephone numbers: Cottage: (616) 674-4066; Quality Inn (616) 655-0303; DD cell (513) 827-2280 4. Directions. The Quality Inn is located at 153 Ampey Road in Paw Paw at exit 60 off I-94. It sits back off the main road a bit, behind another motel called the Mrozk Inn. To the Cottage from I-94. Take Exit No. 56 Decatur/Dowagiac. At the end of the exit ramp turn left onto M51. Go about 1/4 mile to Red Arrow Highway. Left onto Red Arrow. Pass Lake Cora Golf Course on your right. When you reach The Country Boot Store on your left, there will be a fork in the road with the highway curving to the right. Do not curve right. Take the left fork onto Territorial Road. Follow Territorial until it becomes a gravel road. On your left you'll see an old barn with the name 'Effner' on it. Counting that driveway, we are the third driveway on the left. Go all the way back to the last house. 60929 Territorial Road. To the Cottage from the Quality Inn. Go west on I-94 to exit 56. Turn left on M51 to Red Arrow Highway. Follow same directions as above. What to bring: Golf clubs, wine, beer, liquor of your choosing., game tickets, a change of clothing if your're so inclined. Fox and Andy promised to bring some bilgewater they call beer. 5. Golf. Thursday, Oct. 3. Lake Cora Hills Golf Course does not take reservations, but assures me that you'll be able to walk on about any time. Friday, Oct. 4. Hans has made reservations at the Warren Course at ND. Tee times are 12:36. 12:45 and 12:54. That should give everyone time to get their motors running in the morning, get to the Bookstore, etc. before golfing. 6. Fishing. Fishermen will depart on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:00 a.m. for Berrien Springs to meet up with the taciturn Captain Butch! Additional fishing will be at everyone's leisure since the cottage is on a small lake. 7. Food and Drink. On Wednesday evening, we'll eat at the cottage - Italian night. So everyone should check in and then find their way to the cottage. Thursday we'll meet at O'Farrell-McGuire's in Paw Paw after fishing and golf. The golfers will probably arrive first; save some for the rest of us. Friday, we'll have steak at the cottage. Saturday is a day of fast and abstinence. 8. Kitchen Staff. Andy and Ikey will be drafted to assist in the kitchen. Mags will be in charge of selecting, opening and serving the vino. Mags, you can choose your own assistant(s) I've got an '82 bordeaux that should be worthy of serving with the main course on Saturday night. Fox and Gabes will be on the clean-up crew. 9. Game tickets. At last count, we had 14 and Jack has 4 for a total of 18. So we should have 4 extra. I'd like to take another count on Friday, in case some stragglers show up (Terry? Con?) I'm happy to hold two of my 4 and sell them on Saturday if need be. They ought to be more saleable than in past years! Jack has a parking pass to the Stadium Lot and I have one to Lot A. I'm working on another pass as well, but we should all be able to fit into two vans. We'll congregate at Jack's to tailgate. Paw Paw is about an hour from the Stadium. I like to get there early! 10. Arrivals as I understand them (I've updated as info is known - fox): Sobo -- Wedneday sometime Hans, Albert, Guy -- Thursday A.M. Gabes -- Wednesday afternoon Ikey -- Wednesday afternoon Mags -- Wednesday evening with Andy Andy -- Wednesday evening Prep -- Thursday or Friday Jack -- Starting with Golf on Friday Fox -- Wednesday afternoon Bill -- early Wednesday Willo -- Wednesday afternoon with Gabes D.D.
