December 2011 discussion for a 2012 reunion: I sent a note out a couple of months ago. Not much of a response. Probably good to do after the first of the year. First question - do we include a football game? If so, best dates are 9/8 Purdue at home, 9/15 MSU away, 10/6 Miami (Soldier Field), 10/13 Stanford at home. Hans and I will likely have a NDSA Board meeting on 9/22 Michigan at home. If not surrounding a football game, there are other opportunities that we can discuss. September 6-9 - BMW Championship at Crooked Stick - a few miles from my home. Just a couple of thoughts. Jack ************************ Lots of options in Chicago for the Catholics vs. Convicts game on 10/6 at historic Soldier Field! I would host those who want to fish instead of golf. That is prime chinook salmon time on the Pike River in Kenosha! Gabes ************************ Andy, Hans and I had a brief discussion re: Chicago for the Miami game ~4 weeks ago. Sounds very promising although Hans reminded me that the Chicago Marathon is that same weekend (lots of extra peeps in town) and that tix for the football game will be at a premium with Soldier Field (61,500) being 20,000 seats smaller than ND. Nevertheless, I vote for the Chicago as our next reunion site. TE ************************ Occupy Kingston Mines is also that weekend, so the Miami game would work nicely. Prep ************************ I like the way you're thinking. Mags *********************** Sounds like we are coalescing on the Miami game in Chicago. Time to get to work on details. I think we could get a block of tickets. Through the Crossroads Classic basketball in Indy, I havetwo contacts in Athletic office involved in tickets. Jack ********************** Chicago vs Miami sounds like a TERRIFIC venue, count me in. Hey, maybe Theo will have the Cubs in the playoffs and we can parlay a little baseball in Wrigley. Al ********************** WOW! Baseball in Chicago in October! How good could it be? I think we have a plan. Success is always in the implementation! Time to get started Jackie ********************** All sounds great to me. I've posted all of this on the cz site, under reunions, under discussion on left hand menu. we should make this happen .. its been 4 years. I think mostly we need one or two people to take ownership of this .. I could be one of the two from afar .. do we have any volunteers? Fox ********************** I will work on this. Maybe with Hans or A.N Other. Happy to help. Chitown will be fun!!!! There may even be a baseball game as Al has suggested. Jack ********************** As I've said, I'll be happy to host those that want to fish rather than play golf. I'd assume the golf and fishing would take place on Friday of that weekend. Depending upon how many fishermen there might be, I'd could put up those interested at my house on Thursday night (I live less than a mile from the hottest fishing spots). We'd be getting up early, so those who want to fish should plan to be at my house at a reasonable hour Thursday afternoon or early evening. I would entertain at several of my spots in Kenosha on Thursday evening for those who want to fish, and we'd be up early on Friday morning to go after the big chinook salmon. Plan would then be to hook up with the golfers in downtown Chicago on Friday evening. We should all stay downtown at a hotel on Friday night and Saturday night, as I expect CyberZahm to fucking light up Chicago on both nights. I'm excited just thinking about it! I'm sure Hans could schedule things for Thursday evening for those who prefer to play golf on Friday during the day, but as I said, the plan would then be for all of us to hook up in downtown Chicago on Friday night through Sunday departure for all. It would be fine by me if we stayed at the same hotel in Chicago as we did a couple of years ago. It was nice and clean, but I don't remember the hotel name or location. No big deal, though. We'll find somewhere to stay, and I know some great places where we could drink! Gabes *********************** Even better. If there is a game on Thursday, guys could arrive Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. We could all go to the game together, and then the fishermen could head north to Kenosha, and the golfers could stay near the course for Friday action. We could all get together again on Friday evening downtown for the weekend. There truly will be something for everyone. Gabes ********************** Hi guys - I'm in Florida for the weekend enjoying the sun and nightlife (yeah, right...) anyway, I hope everyone can make a Chicago reunion. I'll work with Gabes to coordinate golf, etc. We've got plenty of room at my house for anyone looking for accomodations. Happy New Year!!! Goodbye 2011. Looking forward to 2012! Hans *********************************** and the discussion resumed in March 2012: I think it’s high time for a Cyberzahm reunion. We have much to drink about and discuss in chaotic forum as befits our mission …. A **************** Our first opportunity is probably in October in Chicago coinciding with the Miami v. ND game. Ikey and I discussed it at length when we were together last week. I need an idea of who all would want to attend. Flying into Chicago is probably easy from most anywhere. We would need to work thru the hotel thing given a Chicago Marathon on the Sunday October 7th. Not out of the question to stay outside town and rent a coach for transportation – no parking or DUIs that way. I believe we can get a block of tickets from ND but need a count. I will work on that and already have a contact. Who is in? October 4 thru 7. Jack **************** As of now, that works for me. Andy **************** I'm in. Sobo **************** Ditto Triz *************** I am still in. I am still planning to attend Occupy Kingston Mines that weekend. Prep *************** Prep: You’re talking “dog bites man,” because the Mines have always been a haven for the “occupied” crowd. The “man bites dog” version would be if the Mines suddenly became over-run by “1%”-ers. Know any? Triz ************** They told me it would be a "special" weekend at the Mines. Thank goodness it will be business as usual. Prep P.S. Jackie and Andy will be buying me huge plates of ribs at the Mines. Please plan on being my dinner guest. ************* I'm in. Ike Mags Fox ************* I'll drive the F-150. Five-buck-a-gallon gasoline will give me something to do with my money instead of donating to Obama's Super Pac. --pf ************ I want to be there when you pull up to the curb at the Mines and try to convince the doorman that you used your last Lincoln to buy a gallon of gas. Prep *********** Count me in. Sue'll be driving me up in the Caddy, $5 gas or not. She's got two brothers and a sister who usually run in the Chicago marathon, so she'll want to come up to cheer/jeer them on. BB *********** Jack - I'm in. but I also may be busy for part of the time helping the Chicago Club run the various activies during the weekend. Hans *********** ********************************************************************************************************** Previously suggested sites for reunions: [From 2006 ???] From Gary: All (including you, Guy)- I'll offer up a suggestion for Reunion'03. Bring it down to the Great Southwest, and sample some of the fun in Austin, Tx. The Hill Country has something for everyone: great golf, tremendous fishing and boating on several lakes or rivers, great jazz and some good lookin' fillies at Univ. of Tx. Depending on your travel preference, could include golf at my club and possibly a game at the Ballpark. Suggested dates would be late September/early October on a non-football weekend. That part of the year offers some of the best weather we see. ************************** For a future venue, I have pondered Saratoga Springs, NY. It's a great town, especially during the month of August. Saratoga State Park Golf Course is supposedly a first class course, Lake Saratoga offers the fishing. The Racetrack runs the month of August and is first class and quite enjoyable. Plus they supposedly have a small casino (slots/poker machines). Lots of bars, music, women in bonnets, New Yorkers. What more could you ask for. If we were to have it there, it really should be in August during track season. If there is interest, I'd try to help get it organized, but maybe I would need Al's help dealing with the golf courses. Keep it in mind. Mags ******************** Guys: I'd like to offer Plainsilly as a reunion option this year. At the moment, the available weekends are 8/23-27 and 9/6-10. The cabin is not booked, the weather is usually excellent, the fish are starting to bite again, Minnesota golf courses are in peak condition, pennant races will be in full swing and ND is not at home either weekend. The Penn State game will be on in the loft if the 9/6-10 option is selected. For a taste of first class golf 1 hour from the cabin, google Giant's Ridge. If other sites are preferred, that is fine with me. I thought I would throw it into the mix early so everyone can plan ahead. Willo: Be a rock star and show up. Prep *********************
