Subject: Cooperstown Redux Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2001 20:22:55 -0400 From: Ike Wow! Reality bites! Work was an altogether somber reminder of the real world. It actually hit me after the dust had settled Sunday and I was reading the NYT, the Week in Review...a page of cell phone calls from victims to loved ones as the WTC burned. It was voyeurism at it's worst but a compelling look into the eyes of death and what a person thought of at that moment of truth. They thought about those to whom they were closest...husband, wife, lover, friends. My friends, thank you for making the effort to come to Cooperstown for 3 wonderful days! You made this a special CyberZahm Reunion in the face of national tragedy and personal angst. Hans and Albert...looonnnggg drives to get here. Well done! And Albert's hole-in-one! Unforgettable! How 'bout Andy going comatose Saturday night! And Fox winning every game of scat, not to mention $120, and then refusing to wager on a simple game of horseshoes! What about Mags getting the ultimate unplayable lie: a ball wedged in a tree! Don't forget the brewery trip to Ommegang, dinner at the Hawkeye and Brooks' Barbecue (the Dinosaur is considerably better, Andy). Breakfast at the White House Inn with Ed and Margie Landers and a couple of hours at baseball's shrine, the HoF. Willo, Dave, John, Gabes, Prep, Terry, Jack, Sobo, et al...you were sorely missed! But as much as we would have all loved to have had your company, there are some things that we can't control. I don't know where the next reunion will be but I hope we can all make it. In the meantime, hang together, stay faithful, pray and be safe. We'll get through this. We always do. God bless! TE
